This is a simple, transparent recommender: pick a composer, and it suggests others from the same musical era - the closest thing to "similar style" this site can measure honestly without guessing at your taste.
How the suggestions work
The recommender groups composers by the era they're most associated with, because composers of the same era share a musical language: a fan of Mozart is very likely to enjoy Haydn, and a lover of Debussy will probably take to Ravel. If no one else from that era is on the site yet, it suggests the composers born closest in time instead.
It's a starting point, not a verdict. Taste doesn't always follow eras - plenty of people who love Bach also love minimalism, whose steady patterns have something in common with Baroque music. Each composer page ends with specific listening suggestions, and our guide to the best pieces for beginners has "if you liked this, try that" ideas grouped by style.
