About
Classical Unpacked is a reference guide to classical music - built for listeners who want plain-language explanations rather than academic jargon.
The site covers the historical eras of classical music, the forms and genres that make it up (symphony, concerto, opera, and more), the composers behind the best-known works, and the instruments of the orchestra. Every page aims to answer the question a curious beginner would actually ask - "what makes this a symphony and not just a long piece of music?" - rather than assuming prior musical training.
This is an independent, ad-supported reference site, not affiliated with any orchestra, label, or institution. It's a work in progress: new pages, illustrations, and corrections are added regularly.
